Traditional Christmas trip with the children from “Maria im Tann”
 
In spite of icy temperatures, blocked motorways and lots of snow, IBIS GmbH’s annual swimming trip for the children and teenagers of the “Maria im Tann” centre for child and youth welfare and family support in Aachen took place again this year on 23rd December.

The company has supported this institution since 1996, and not only with the traditional day in the Aqualand leisure pool in Cologne, but also throughout the year through material and financial donations, as well as by actively participating in the annual Aachen solidarity run.
 
This year, more than 60 children thanked the company once again with an original present that they had made themselves, which they presented to Sales Manager Oliver Mathar before the trip.

“Many of the children living here have had to undergo very bad experiences at a very young age. They need a lot of love, patience and care to be able to cope with it all at all. With our trip at Christmas, therefore, we want to bring some light-heartedness and variety into the everyday life of the home”, explained Andr

Kevin (10) and his half-brother, Dominik, (12), for example, have lived in the children’s home for three years. Employees of the Youth Welfare Office found the children in an apartment that was completely full of rubbish; neither of them had received any real food for days. Their father was mentally ill and their mother was completely overstretched by her life and the housework. To begin with, both children found it difficult to get used to life in the home. But the child care workers cared for them and gave them love, and were able to give them back the trust that they had lost in the chaos of their early years. Kevin and Dominik have now formed attachments with a number of people at “Maria im Tann” and say: “without trust, you will lose your mind eventually”. Serious words for such young people. But in spite of the experiences of their early childhood, they can now enjoy such moments as, for example, the swimming trip made possible by IBIS to the full.

Aqualand in Cologne is very popular with the children from “Maria im Tann” because of the variety of different slides and the various grottos. The children were then able to feast and fortify themselves on the food available there as frequently and as much as they wanted.
