On the 19th September 2010, the Diocese and church district of Aachen held a solidarity run for the fifth time to support the unemployed.
Around 800 people from the area lined up in autumnal temperatures in Aachen’s market square in order to take part in the run and improve upon last year’s takings of 26,000 Euros.
Large and small, young and old, sporty types or those who’d rather take it easy – the runners represented numerous organisations and charitable causes. “This run is not about speed, but about solidarity,” said co-ordinator Gerd Mertens, offering even those runners in less than great shape the motivation to take part.
“Fifty-Fifty” was the motto for the charity run: 50% of the money raised goes to church-run unemployment aid projects, with the other 50% going to a charitable cause of the runners’ own choice.
For many years now, IBIS GmbH has supported the “Maria im Tann” children’s, youth and family centre in Aachen, and put its running shoes on once again at this year’s solidarity run in order to cover an impressive number of kilometres.

The employees of IBIS ran 113 laps in the allotted time, with each lap a kilometre long. The company donated 10 Euros for each lap completed. Managing Director Dietmar Halterbeck (photo below) also supported the run and completed a formidable 22 laps.

After the run, Dietmar Halterbeck said: “For years now, supporting the children and young people of “Maria im Tann”,
who come from extremely difficult family backgrounds, has been a matter of course for IBIS, and a social responsibility at the same time.”
